"We're Clapping" is based on the music video of "Handclap" by Fitz & the Tantrums. This song became the hit summer song of 2016. Yet many probably don't know more of the lyrics than, "I can make your hands clap," and even fewer know the meaning behind the song.
This upbeat song that got everybody dancing is a song of desire and melancholy. It's almost the perfect song to play at a bar late at night to dance. "Handlcap" is all about the need to belong and to forge that connection with someone. It's about the dark road this can lead to, and if you're going to walk it. It continues on to be that primal desire that leads you to in fact take that walk to connect with that person. It reveals those feelings of love and lust that can just take over when you're in the right place at the right time.
"Every night when the stars come out. Am I the only living soul around?"
Did you know those lyrics were in the song?
